The Wind Ensemble consists of the most advanced musicians in grades 9-12. The band meets daily and performs in four concerts. The ensemble focuses on the study and performance of repertoire associated with the finest in wind band literature. All selected works, concepts learned, and techniques developed, will adequately prepare students to participate in collegiate level musical ensembles. Every member of the Wind Ensemble receives weekly lessons and often work with prominent clinicians and guest conductors.

The Grand Island Wind Ensemble, in existence since 1993, is an audition group dedicated to the performance of the finest literature for wind band. It is the ensemble's philosophy that the pursuit toward great performances of great music is, in and of itself, an extremely worthy goal. The process of mastering and performing the composers intent is both an educational and life changing endeavor.

In its twenty-one year history, this ensemble has established a reputation for excellence at State and National Music Festivals. They have received six Gold Medal ratings at the New York State School Music Associations Major Organization Festivals from 1994-1998 and level six Gold with Distinction ratings from 1998 to the present. They have also performed at Dixie Classic National Music Festivals since 1994 where they have been awarded Superior Ratings as well as Festival Honors at the Classic Festivals and The National Adjudicator's Invitational Festivals. The group also performed at the Grand National Adjudicator’s Invitational where they received Superior ratings and awards for Outstanding Percussion Section, Outstanding Brass, Outstanding Woodwind Section, and many Outstanding Soloist awards. In 2014 they received the Honor Award for overall best performing ensemble.

The Wind Ensemble has performed with leading ensembles and conductors including the Amherst Saxophone Quartet, The Maelstrom Percussion Ensemble, The Erie County Wind Ensemble, Col. Arnald Gabriel, Timothy Reynish, Dr. Mark Scatterday, Robert Dilutis, Tim Schwartz, Russel Mickkelson, Dr. Paula Holcomb, David Holsinger and Steve Peterson.
